Amazon Brazil

Venture into pristine rainforest some 80 kilometres south of Manaus on Lake Juma. The four hour journey is a sightseeing tour in itself: first you cross the wide Amazon by launch, passing the Meeting of the Waters where the silt-laden Rio Solimoes meets the dark, clear waters of the Rio Negro to form the Amazon. Then, after a short trip by road, you board a motorised canoe for the trip along the Rio Araca, getting ever further away from civilisation, to reach a secluded area where the seasonal rise and fall of the waters creates narrow, twisting creeks and a maze of small islands covered in virgin rainforest.
