Specialist Knowledge

Need some help with your trip? Our advisors have travelled extensively and using their firsthand knowledge & experience can help craft your perfect holiday.

Purpose-built to reach seldom-visited parts of the Amazon, the Tucano is our preferred cruise vessel in this part of the world's biggest rainforest. It is styled on the classic steam riverboats of yesteryear and offers guests plenty of space to spread out, with a large observation deck to soak in the rainforest vistas.

All cabins have plenty of large windows, air conditioning and private bathrooms. They are elegantly decorated, with stylish wood panelling, and offer completely comfort and privacy in both single and double rooms. A variety of delicious Brazilian meals are served, with fresh fruit, vegetables and Amazon fruit juices are on offer.

The Tucano's skilled naturalist guides have a wealth of intimate knowledge of the unique habitats and wildlife. It is a love and respect for the environment which both delights their guests and is an immense source of pride for the Tucano. They lead small groups, typically of around eight like-minded explorers, deep into little-visited parts of the jungle wilderness, ensuring guests remain safe and providing an enriching commentary on the plants, trees, birds and animals of the Amazon.

The Tucano Experience

Venture further into the Brazilian Amazon wilderness aboard the specialist-built Tucaco Riverboat in the company of experienced naturalist guides, who lead memorable small group shore excursions to pristine bio-diverse areas.

Excursions & Sightseeing

The daily schedule takes you ashore or into a smaller boat up to five times each day, sometimes via kayaks, other times in motorised canoes or often on foot, following primitive and little-trodden paths into the jungle. Hundreds of species of birds make their homes in this remote location, far from the reach of the city lights and visits to small communities will offer valuable insights into life in the world's biggest rainforest and their unique customs and culture. Ancient trees tower high, draped in vines at their base and covered with orchids. After dinner you will head out again, this time in search of the Amazon's mysterious nocturnal creatures.

Highlights

You will encounter a range of unique habitats, including both types of flooded forests and the extraordinary phenomenon of the meeting of the waters, where the silty light brown waters of the Rio Solimoes runs side-by-side for several miles with the dark current of the Rio Negro.

Observation Deck

The Observation Deck runs the length of the entire upper deck on the M/Y Tucano. Guests can go forward and watch the crew navigate the vessel, sit comfortably under the canopy and scan the canopy for monkeys and birds, or simply swing in a hammock in lazy comfort.

Middle Deck

The balcony around the front of the boat is a wonderful place to pull up a chair and observe the forest close up. The salon is airy and has windows all the way around.

Two staterooms on this deck have single beds separated by a nightstand. By inserting a third narrow bed in the middle, these staterooms can also accommodate three persons.
