MANSION`S
HISTORY
The argentine bourgeoisie high society of the early 1900's, accustomed
to the refinements of the life in Europe, developed the eclecticism, turning
away from the traditional Spanish colonial architectural style, with spectacular
fronts and small inside patios and an esthetically admirable Art Nouveaux
decoration.
The construction
of the building today known as Mansion Dandi Royal began in those days.
The Obras Sanitarias blueprints are dated 1913, when the water system
was still in British hands.
The manufacturing
date stamped on the door locks and handles is 1889, from which we can
assume that the idea to build the Mansion greatly preceded its actual
construction.
|
|
Originally
built by engineer Bianchi, based on the design by architect Cristophersen,
the Mansion is organized around two inside patios with two floors facing
the front and four facing the back. The first floor occupied by the Dandi
Royal salon, up the marble stairwell, the reception opens and the remaining
three hold the bedrooms and amenities such as swimming pool, solarium,
and more.
The facade
stands out for its architectural iconicity, where the God Bacchus of exacerbated
Italianizing ornamentation dominates the scene, crowned by a half point
arch framed by two florid vases, which reestablish its formal balance.
|
|
In
the year 2000 Dandi Tango Academy began negotiations to acquire this beautiful
residence in order to fulfill our director's, Héctor Villalba,
dream of creating something never seen in lodging and Tango teaching for
foreign and argentine Tango lovers. With the help of his dear friend Osvaldo
Donato, a renowned argentine architect, the restoration (which took almost
two years) began. The world famous painter, Abel Jorge Magnani participated
in the decoration of this magnificent house, embellishing all of its rooms
and common spaces with amazing period murals.
That is
how Mansion Dandi Royal - Tango Residential Academy was born, the very
first of its kind, where you can live 24 hours a day in a warm, comfortable,
sophisticated and original argentine Tango atmosphere.
