Colonial Cities

Parati

Parati is a veritable paradise, ideal for winding down. Mountains blanketed with lush shady forests stretch to the coast, overlooking the sandy beach in a glorious bay, dotted with tropical islands.

Ancient Portuguese forts rest on outcrops, both on the mainland and the islands. Architecturally stunning, the whitewashed colonial houses, with brightly painted windows and doors, line the pedestrianised cobblestone streets.

Great bars and restaurants, offering local seafood delicacies, stand alongside arts and crafts shops. The atmosphere is tasteful and unspoilt, retaining the colonial charm. Wonderful boat trips can be made to explore the islands, landing on secluded beaches, or you can anchor in bays for snorkelling or diving in the clear, warm waters.

Exploring this city is a delight where only a few modern buildings snap you out of colonial times. The cobblestone streets lead you past decorative fountains, statues, charming churches and mansions. Looking up at the steeples and domes of coloured tiles it doesn't take much to imagine yourself back in the 18th Century.
