For five centuries, this palace functioned as the administrative center of the country. Hutong: A hutong is an ancient city alley or lane typical in Beijing, where hutongs run into the several thousand. The Great Wall: A great fortification in ancient China. The sections at Badaling & Mutianyu are the most famous of all, due to their proximity to Beijing City and condition of restoration; while the sections at Jinshanling & Simatai, on the way between Beijing and Chengde, are less crowded and with primitive taste of the project.

The Beijing Zoo is situated in the Xicheng District and it was the first of its kind to be opened in China. The zoo contains a diverse collection of animals, a number of exhibition halls and some sites of historical interest. The zoo is home to around 450 different species and has a population of some 5,000 animals. Some of the most popular attractions among visitors are the wild and rare animals of China itself, such as the pandas, golden monkeys, milu deer and northeast tigers.

The Summer Palace is Situated 12 kilometers northwest of the downtown and is the largest imperial garden in the world. It is a veritable museum of classical Chinese garden architecture. The Temple of Heaven was built in 1420 A.D., during the Ming Dynasty (1368 A.D. to 1644 A.D.) to offer sacrifice to the God of Heaven. As Chinese emperors called themselves "The Son of Heaven", they dared not to build their own dwelling "Forbidden City" bigger than that of the God of Heaven. National Grand Theatre: The spectacular glass and titanium National Grand Theater opened in 2007 in Tiananmen Sqaure besides the Great Hall of the People.

The egg-shaped Opera House, designed by French architect Paul Andreu, was controversial as many local critics felt it was not "Chinese" enough in appearance. The 2,416 seat opera house has 200,000 square meters in floor space and aims to provide an iconic building for China's capital on a par with the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Yonghe Lamasery is the Lama Temple and is the largest and most perfectly preserved lamasery in present day of China. Built initially in 1694 during the Qing Dynasty (1636 A.D. to 1911 A.D.), this building used to be the residence of Emperor Yongzheng when he was just a prince. However, in 1744 the Qing Dynasty formally changed the status of the dwelling to that of a lamasery, and so Yonghe Lamasery became the national centre of Lama Administration.

China Olympic Green Bird Nest was designed for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Olympic events of track and field, football, gavelock, weight throw and discus were held there.
