Just an hour south of Recife, Porto de Galinhas is the embodiment of Brazilian beach culture; the laid-back town has a host of small bars and restaurants playing live music and a long beach protected by a reef. Traditional fishing craft known as jangadas can be hired for snorkelling trips to see colourful fish and sea horses.
