Train Journeys. Quito, Riobamba, Alausi, Cuenca
Depart from Quito via the Avenue of the Volcanoes, passing incredible landscape to embark on the famous Devil's Nose train journey from Aluasi to Sibambe and finalise your journey at the UNESCO colonial city of Cuenca.
3 night itinerary:
- Day 1
Depart Quito along to the Avenue of the Volcanoes, enjoying incredible landscapes. The surrounding wildlife reserve protects the Andean condor, vicunas and other local animal species.
Continue to Riobamba, a very colourful drive passing several indigenous villages. Overnight at Hosteria Abraspungo.(L, D)
- Day 2
Early start to board the Devil's Nose "locomotora" (rail-bus) from Alausí Quito, Riobamba, Alausí,Cuenca TRAIN JOURNEYS to Sibambe and back. Descend this impressive rail segment admiring dramatic scenery, magnificent landscapes and views of the snowcapped volcanoes. Back at Alausí continue to Cuenca with a visit of the Ingapirca Inca ruins, the largest of Ecuador. Overnight Hotel Santa Lucia or similar. (B,L)
- Day 3
Morning city tour of Cuenca, UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Site. Visit some of its churches, museums and squares and see how Panama hat are woven from straw. Lunch & afternoon flight to Quito or Guayaquil. (B,L)
