Andean Explorer Train Journey to Peru

Early morning start to board the train - part of the Orient Express group - for the spectacular trip south to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Setting off from historic Cusco, the train climbs gradually through the Andes - this first part of the journey is dominated by the magnificent peaks that tower over the deep valley of the Huatanay River. The journey is broken by a scenic stop at La Raya Pass (3,450 metres), the highest point on the route. Once over the pass the high mountains give way to desolate altiplano, dotted with herds of vicuña and alpaca. Lunch and afternoon tea are served at your table by the window, so you can watch the Andean landscapes unfold without interruption. The glass-walled observation car offers unparalleled opportunities to view the full splendour of the scenery. This exceptional full day trip departs Cusco at 0800, arriving in Puno at 1800.
