Our tour covers areas which embrace wildly differing landscapes, coastal desert regions interspersed with fertile valleys, the lush soaring mountain peaks where the 'Lost City of the Incas' lay hidden for so long, contrasts with deep jungle boasting the rare giant otter, caiman and many species endemic only to Peru.
Days 1-2
Depart for Lima on Friday, Monday or Wednesday, arriving the same
day. Transfer to our hotel. The following morning travel south
through coastal desert to Ica for 1 night. Take a flight over the
legendary Nasca Lines. (B)
Day 3
Continue to the Paracas Peninsula for a boat out to the Ballestas
Islands, home to sea lion colonies and thousands of marine birds.
Lunch at Paracas and return to Lima for a night.(B)
Day 4
Today we fly south to Arequipa, situated in a beautiful valley at
the foot of the snow-capped Misti Volcano. An afternoon excursion
takes us to the remarkable Santa Catalina Convent and explores this
city, built almost exclusively out of white volcanic stone.

Day 5
Fly to Juliaca and transfer to our hotel in Puno, a town on the
shores of Lake Titicaca. From here we take a boat trip to visit the
people living on the floating Uros Islands. (B)
Day 6
Continue by train part of the Orient Express group on an
unforgettable journey to Cusco, travelling across the Andean
altiplano, past striking mountain scenery, small villages, remote
farms and stations. Transfer to our hotel. (B,L)
Day 7
A full day excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The road
winds down into the stunning Urubamba valley, where we visit Pisac
market, the Inca village of Ollantaytambo and Pisac ruins. Return
to Cusco. (B,L)
Days 8-9
Spend the afternoon on a tour of the city and the main ruins in
the surrounding area, including the vast site of Sacsayhuamán. The
next day is free for you to explore at leisure. (B)
Days 10-11
Leave Cusco by train following the Urubamba River, through
beautiful countryside and culminating in the awesome Machu Picchu.
After a guided tour you are free to explore the site. Overnight at
our hotel, returning to Cusco the following morning. (B)
Days 12-13
Fly to Puerto Maldonado and travel by motorised dugout canoe up
the Tambopata River to our jungle lodge. The next day we start
early a programme of daily excursions visiting at the macaw
clay-lick, canoe on the nearby lake, hike in the dense treet
canopy. We climb up a tower into the tower into the canopy to
observe the forest. (Please see pages 100 - 101 for details).
Days 14-15
Overnight at the lodge. (B,L,D) Return to Puerto Maldonado on Day
14 and take a flight to Lima for 1 night. In the afternoon we tour
the city tour, visiting the grand colonial squares, and the Larco
Herrera Museum, housing a fascinating collection of pre-Colombian
gold, silver and mummies. Overnight flight back home, arriving on,
Day 16. (B)
The Criollo Tour departs Friday, Monday or Wednesday returning on Saturday, Tuesday or Thursday - 16 days including 14 nights' accommodation and breakfast (B), all flights (1overnight), transfers and excursions with English-speaking guides, transport and meals as shown.
