Salcantay Trail.
Trek through high forest, canyons and towering mountains in the Vilcabamba range, with the Salcantay peak in the background to subtropical valleys and plantations to Machu Picchu. Three nights camping and one in a simple hotel.
night itinerary:
- Day 1
Departure to Mollepata where we start climbing pass the Humantay glacier to camp at Soraypampa. - Day 2
Tough trek and spectacular scenery to the Wayraq pass. - Day 3
Descend to warmer, more humid tropical vegetation. - Day 4
Trek to the road and drive to Santa Teresa for a swim in the wam river waters. Drive to the station and board the train to Aguas Calientes. - Day 5
Guided tour of Machu Picchu, return to Cusco by train.
