FORTRESS
Golden Route of The Incas And Conquistadores
The inca Gold taken by the Conquistadores, was stored at Cartagena de Indias, the nearest Atlantic port, and ready for shipment across to Spain running the gauntlet of the infamous pirates of the Caribbean islands. Massive Fortresses were built at times of colonial conflict: the Incas built Machu Picchu for protection from the usurpers, and they in turn built Cartagena, to protect the coveted loot from their rivals and pirates. We take a boat journey to explore the once impregnable rainforest, visiting isolated villages to observe life on the upper reaches of the Amazon river
