Located to the north-east of the Forbidden City, just a few minutes walk from the metro, the Courtyard Ruyuan exudes traditional charm and elegance in a beautiful courtyard setting. The building dates from the ancient Qing Dynasty, where it served as a former palace. In recent years it underwent extensive and tasteful refurbishment to create a sophisticated and welcoming boutique hotel, enriched throughout by Chinese furnishings and antiques. In the grounds you will encounter centuries-old trees, as well as birds and fish.
There are 11 rooms and a suite at the Ruyuan, all of which blend traditional Chinese aesthetics with a modern minimalist approach. Each room enjoys its own private veranda and all the modern amenities you are likely to require. The following rooms are available:
- 4 Superior Rooms
- 4 Deluxe Rooms (one with garden-view)
- 3 Loft Rooms
- 1 Emperor Suite
The Ruyuan also specialises in Tanjia cooking - previously the reserve of Chinese imperials. This uses a mixture of stir-frying, stewing, simmering and steaming to produce mild and delicious dishes packed with fresh ingredients.
