One of the best ways to really understand the history and culture of Costa Rica is by exploring the capital San Jose and its most important neighbourhoods, buildings and monuments. During the course of the tour you will gain an in-depth perspective on local life and the past as you visit various districts and parks, as well as some government building and the university. There will also be a visit to the National Museum, known for its variety of pre-Columbian artifacts and exhibitions dedicated to Costa Rican religious art and the history of the country since the Spanish conquest.

Later you will discover the National Theatre, San José's foremost architectural showpiece and a source of pride to Costa Ricans. The building's origins date to 1890 when the Italian opera singer Angela Pelati gave a number of performances in Guatemala, but refused to come to Costa Rica due to the lack of a proper theater.
