El Alto Airport is the highest international airport in the world (4,061 mts – 13,123 ft). It serves as the hub for Amaszonas and BOA airlines. Altitude sickness may be an issue for some traveller so we recommend you to talk to your doctor to take the necessary precautions.
From the UK passengers can fly to La Paz with Air Europa via Madrid, Santa Cruz in conjunction with Amaszonas Airlines. Alternatively, with British Airways via Lima and continuing with Avianca to La Paz (Seasonal)
The airport offers complimentary Wi-Fi through “Gap Free” or “SSID LPZ” network. However signal may be weak at times. The airport is open 24 hours. The terminal includes various shops offering Bolivian handicrafts and restaurants.
El Alto international Airport is located at the city of El Alto, 8 miles (13 km) west of La Paz.
There is a taxi stop and bus stop area to transport passengers to La Paz city center and its surroundings. The estimate journey is 30 minutes in moderate traffic.
The airport comprises a single terminal building with separated sections for national and international flights.
At present, there are flights on 25 different routes from La Paz El Alto International Airport, connecting LPB to 25 different cities in 10 different countries. The most popular routes connect La Paz to Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Rurenabaque, Sucre and Cobija. Connections are straightforward as a single terminal taking approximately 10-15 minutes’ walk between gates.
