Juan Santamaria International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Costa Rica, thanks to a persistent rise in traffic boosted by the increasing tourism industry.
The airport is the main hub for Sansa Airlines and a key hub for Copa Airlines and Avianca. Additionally, the airport is also doorway to the rest of the Costa Rica and other countries in Central America.
From the UK passengers can fly non-stop from London Gatwick South with British Airways. The flight runs day time three times a week. Alternatively passengers can also reach San Joe with Iberia via Madrid, British Airways and American Airlines via Miami, Air France via Paris, Avianca via Bogota or Lufthansa via Frankfurt. Numerous domestic and regional flights are available to connect from San Jose to the rest of the Americas.
Free Wi-Fi for all passengers entering and exiting the country. Three Wi-Fi networks are available: “Free SJO Wi-Fi by Samsung”. The connection will remain active for 3 hours (limited broad band).
The airport is located in Alajuela Province, by Cañas road exit 1 towards San José, 20 km west of the city centre of San Jose.
Juan Santamaria Airport operated as one terminal building, divided into the main international (M) and the domestic (D) Avianca and Copa operate from the main, where Sansa and Nature air operate from the domestic.
Public bus service is available 24 hours to connect with San Jose city centre. Licensed taxis are available in the airport and will usually accept both USD dollars.
Passengers connecting to domestic flights, should allow at least two hours, to allow all immigration processes and re-check of baggage to take place smoothly.
