Guided tour of Santa Cruz

Arrive in Santa Cruz, where your Veloso Tours guide will meet you and transfer you to your chosen hotel for a 1 night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Afternoon city tour of Santa Cruz exploring this warm University City with a wealth of colonial architecture and local markets to enjoy.

Day 3

Fly to Sucre

We take a domestic flight to Sucre this morning. On arrival, transfer to your chosen hotel for a 3 night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the city, steeped in colonial history, at your own pace.


Day 4

Tarabuco Market

Sunday is market day in Sucre, so our guide to take you on a tour of the city including a visit to this most authentic and lively of markets. Here, locals from miles around descend to sell their wears; textiles, fruits, vegetables, arts, crafts and clothes. Everything is on display in an atmosphere of rural excitement. Tarabuco is one of Latin America's most famous local markets and a joy to experience.

Our tour also visits the main square with white buildings and the central garden, the narrow streets, Recoleta Convent, the Cathedral, museum and House of Liberty. Lunch is included today.


Day 5

Old Country Manor House

Today, your guide will take you on a visit out of Sucre to an old country 'Manor House', steeped in Bolivian history. Lunch is included today at a local restaurant.

Drive to Potosi

Today we travel across the Altiplano through stunning alpine landscapes arriving at Potosi, a city with a long mining history. Check into your chosen hotel for a 2 night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax after your scenic drive.


Day 7

Guided tour of Potosi

Today, enjoy a full day guided tour of Potosi with your expert local guide. We visit a myriad of exhausted silver mines of Cerro Rico and Potosi's former Mint, now a museum. The city itself is full of delightful colonial architecture, particularly Plaza 10 Novembre lined with characterful buildings. We also visit the cathedral and several churches.

Day 8

Drive to Uyuni

Our journey continues with a drive across the mountains passing remote landscapes. We stop regularly for the chance to photograph this awe-inspiring region of Latin America. Our destination is the city of Uyuni, the gateway to the world's largest salt flats. We check into our hotel for a 2 night stay on a bed and breakfast basis.


Day 9

Explore Uyuni Salt Flats

Today, your local guide takes you on another highlight of this journey, a visit to the Uyuni salt flats. Here, discover salt flats enveloped in bright light, blue sky and distant volcanoes. In the centre, we stop at a large rocky island with tall cactus; we trek to the top of the island for a magnificent scenic view.

Day 10

Drive to San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

Today we continue our scenic drive crossing the border into Chile and through landscapes of desert, lagoons, salt flats and distant volcanoes to San Pedro de Atacama, our base for 3 nights on a full board basis exploring the natural wonders of Chile's Atacama Desert. 


Day 11

Exploring the Atacama Desert

Our full day excursion visits the Tatio Geysers, mystifying Moon Valley and ending with a visit to the pre-Inca fortress of Pucara de Quitor at sunset.


Day 12

Exploring the Atacama Desert

A further day of explorations today in the extraordinary Atacama Desert. We take a trek in the desert, where your guide will take you to the best places for photography. You will gain an in depth understanding onto the geology, fauna and flora that thrives here. We also visit a local museum with Pre-Colombian artifacts.

Terrantai Lodge

Atacama Desert - First Hotel

The Terrantai Lodge is a well-hidden retreat, from the street one would assume it is another adobe house, but upon entering you come across a small maze, with a few of the rooms having both a front door and patio door. There is a pleasant outdoor restaurant which captures the cool breeze and the staff are always on hand. Accommodation is full board and airport transfers and daily excursions are included.

A range of excursions are offered which allow you to discover the natural wonders and beauty of the surrounding area. These include visits to salt flats, the Moon Valley, petroglyphs, ruins, geysers, lagoons and many other attractions. Some excursions are on foot, others by jeep and there is also the opportunity to explore on horseback.

Altiplanico Hotel

Atacama Desert - First Hotel

The Hotel Altiplanico is located in spacious grounds on the edge of San Pedro, just a short walk from the centre of the small town. The modern desert architecture and style, using local material and colours, enhances the local character and all the rooms have a terrace facing the Andes to the east and are decorated in a traditional Atacameño style. Every room has a private bathroom, hot water, and purified drinking water (no TV, telephone or mini-bar).

Atacama Desert - First Lodge

Covering an area of 17 hectares outside the town of San Pedro, the Explora lodge is a complex of gardens and walkways with modern architecture, comfortable accommodation and many facilities. Newly renovated in 2016, the lodge has its own stables offering a variety of horse riding excursions, as well as its own covered area for astronomy. The Explora lodge specialises in 'Explorations' offering over 40 activities ranging from sightseeing to more adventurous biking and trekking.

Day 13

Drive to Salta

Today we travel across the Andean mountains to the border and cross into Argentina. The scenery for the journey is something quite amazing, with dramatic peaks and volcanoes at every turn. We continue to the ancient city of Salta, set in the mountains, where we stay for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. After checking into your hotel, the rest of the day is at leisure.


Day 14

Explore Cachi

Today we visit the small town of Cachi, in the Calchaqui Valley near to Salta. The town is known for its abode houses and white colonial buildings. We visit the Iglesia San Jose, a Spanish colonial church located in the centre of the town. We also explore the Museo Arqueologico de Cachi Pio Pablo Diaz with its locally excavated artifacts, some dating as far back as 10,000 years ago. After visiting the town, we travel to nearby villages in the scenic, sow-capped Nevado de Cachi mountains.

 


Day 15

Tour to Cafayate

Your guide will take you to Cafayate today, a small town in Salta province set in the Calchaquí Valleys, an area known for its reddish rock formations. Here, there are vineyards covering most of the agricultural land, and in Cafayate we visit the Museo de la Vid y el Vino and discover the process of winemaking used in this remote region of Argentina. We also visit the town square are the Rodolfo Bravo Regional and Archaeological Museum, with objects from local excavations, and the 19th-century Our Lady of the Rosary cathedral.


Day 16

Visit Purmamarca and Humahuaca

In the morning, we visit Purmamarca one of Argentina's most beautiful villages, with adobe houses and a small Spanish colonial church - all set against the backdrop of the spectacular Cerro de los Siete Colores (the Hill of Seven Colours). The scenery and setting is a delight.

In the afternoon, we continue to Humahuaca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the jagged, colourful mountains that look like sticks of rock you would buy at the seaside. We visit the archeological museum, a local market and charming Fransican church.

Day 17

Fly to Iguazu

After a morning tour of Salta's colourful square, cathedral and museum, we transfer to the airport and fly to Iguazu where you will be met by our guide and transferred to your chosen hotel or lodge for a 2 night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Rest of the day is at leisure.


Day 18

Visit the Iguazu Falls

Explore the awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls today. There are three trails, each with different viewpoints. The most famous is the trail that leads to Devil's Throat, a thundering gush of water that will leave you with a sense of awe at the power of nature.

La Cantera

Iguazu Falls - Tourist Lodge

Located in the forest outside of the town of Puerto Iguazu, and 15 minutes from the falls, La Cantera Jungle Lodge has rooms distrubited in a series of bungalows connected by raised walkways. The rooms are spacious  and well appointed, with a balcony looking out into the forest as well as private facilities and air conditioning. The hotel has a restaurant and a swimming pool with a terrace area for relaxing.
