Day 1

Antigua

Departure flight to Guatemala City arriving in the evening. You will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel. We conduct an introductory briefing and there is the opportunity for a short walk in Antigua. 


Day 2

City tour Antigua

We have a walking tour of the city, visiting the market with colourful weavings, the coffee museum, the Mayan music Museum with a collection of Mayan musical instruments and a gallery of art.

El Meson de Maria

The hotel Mesón de María is located in the heart of La Antigua Guatemala just a few steps from the main street, La Calle Del Arco. Constructed in harmony with the old colonial style and beauty, "El Mesón de María" provides a relaxed and refined atmosphere, personalized service, inviting you to stay in a combination of luxury and hospitality in an owner-maintained establishment.

Ideally located at the quiet end of famous Fifth Avenue, it is a pleasant four block walk from Antigua's main Plaza and Cathedral down a cobble stone street past wonderful ruins and delightful shops. It has nine lovely suites and three double rooms. Just beyond the entrance, there is an inviting central garden and fountain surrounded by a veranda that is quintessential Antigua. Palacio De Dona Leonor

The hotel Palacio de Doña Leonor is located in an old colonial house in the heart of this magical city, just a few meters away from the cathedral and Antigua's Central Park. It was completely refurbished in 2006 but keeping the same charming colonial architectural style. Each of the 12 rooms are named after a historical figure from Antigua's past and is decorated in a different way still in keeping with the colonial theme of the hotel. There is a restaurant, breakfast room, outdoor lounge and breakfast areas in the central courtyard. Plenty of shops and restaurants are just a few steps away. Journey to Chichicastenango known for its traditional K'iche' Maya culture. We will visit the Sunday market, a riotous cacophony of colourful tectiles, local dialects and wood carvings, you will also have time to explore on your own.

Day 4

Santo Tomas church & travel to Lake Atitlan

Visit the 400-year old church of Santo Tomas, which Pagan Shamans still use for rituals, burning incense and candles. Next we drive to Lake Atitlan, staying for two nights.


Day 5

Full day excursion across Lake Atitlan

Today we explore the area around lake Atitlan, the magnificent indigenous village of Santiago Atitlan to find the home of the maya God Maximon. We walk the streets, visit the market and church, and learn about the local history, their distincitive textiles and primitive art. Next we visit the small village of Palopo.

Located in Santa Catarina Palopo & near to Panajachel, Casa Palopo has four suites & four standard double rooms with private outdoor terraces with incredible views to the lake & volcanoes. The villa enjoys a private 50 feet long pool, spa, indoor and outdoor living and dining areas & library. By the pool there is an area of relaxation with outdoor fireplace for lounging in the evening.

Transfer to Tikal

Early flight to the Flores in the northern rainforest, and on to the magnificent Mayan archaeological site at Tikal, staying for two nights.

 


Day 10

Tour of Tikal

Full day to explore the site with pyramids that extend high above the tree canopy and the numerous Mayan ruins spreadout within the forest. At sunrise troops of monkeys are active in the tree canopy, together with many birds and wildlife finding refuge within the national park.

La Lancha Lodge

Tikal - Luxury Lodge

La Lancha is located in a beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Peten Itza. Part of the Francis Ford Coppola family of lodges in central America, La Lancha is a perfect luxury retreat to be your base for discovering the incredible Mayan ruins that are hidden in the nearby national parks.

Under the tall thatched roof of the main lodge is the restaurant serving local and international cuisine. There is a small two level swimming pool to cool down in, or take a dip in the lake's refreshing waters. The lodge also has a bar and a shop.

The lodge has ten thatched bungalows: four lakeside casitas and six rainforest casitas, all rustically decorated with local artefacts and regional and Balinese furniture. Each has two spacious bedrooms, private bathroom and a balcony with hammocks and chairs. Free Wi-Fi is available.

Wildlife viewing around La Lancha is rewarding with an abundance of bird life, and primates such as howler monkeys can be seen and heard.  Kayaking and fishing can be also be organised. Without doubt, the main attraction arranged by the lodge is to the ruins of Tikal, just a twenty-minute drive away.

The rates are on a room and breakfast basis, with free use of the Lodge's mountain bikes and canoes.

Today we travel to San Ignasio in Belize, staying two nights in comfortable palm-thatched cottages with a spectacular panorama of the Macal River Valley with many Maya ceremonial caves.


Day 12

Mountain Pine Ridge

Full day trip to Mountain Pine Ridge, a pine forest with an exuberant undergrowth of ferns next to a contrasting tropical rainforest, ending at the Rio Hondo waterfalls where we have the opportunity to go for a swim.

Day 13

Orange Walk district

Drive to the Orange Walk district, where jaguars are a possible sighting, as are toucans, iguanas and Baird's tapir. It is the ideal place for birdwatching, with over 400 species of birds recorded in swamps, lagoons and waterways. We stay two nights at the Lamanai lodge.


Day 14

Lamanai ruins

One full day to explore and visit the spectacular Mayan ruins of the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve.

 


Day 15

Departure from Belize City

Short visit Belize City and transfer to the airport for your overnight flight back home, arriving on day 16. Or extend your travel to unwind at one of Belize's beach hotels and resorts, ideal to snorkel and dive in the second largest barrier Reef in the world.

Arrive in the UK

Lamanai Lodge

Lamanai & Orange Walk - First Lodge

Perched on a hillside overlooking the waters of the New River Lagoon and adjacent to the spectacular Maya ruins of the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve is the Lamanai Outpost Lodge.

Public facilities include an open air restaurant and bar affording panoramic views of the New River Lagoon. There is also a reference library and lounge area to relax.

Each of the Outpost's cabañas offers rustic elegance while blending in with the lush tropical gardens. The cabañas are handcrafted of local hardwoods with a palm thatched roof and feature screened windows for an open feel, ceiling fans, private bathroom with hot and cold running water, 24 hour electricity and all have verandas overlooking the lush tropical garden or lagoon. 

Accommodation is on a full board basis including a full programme of excursions and guided walks.
