Rio de Janeiro - 3 Nights

Day 1

Fly to Rio

Depart on Friday on a daytime flight to Rio de Janeiro, arriving in the evening. You will be met at the airport by our representative who will take you to your hotel in the cosmopolitan beach area of Copacabana, staying for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. On arrival you will have an introduction to the local area which is an opportunity for our guide to provide advice, explain your programme and answer any questions you may have.


Day 2

Full Day Tour of Rio de Janeiro

Today you will visit the statue of Christ the Redeemer, perched on Corcovado mountain, granting fabulous views of the city, lagoon and beaches. You will then continue visiting the historic Royal Palace and cathedral in the centre of the city. 


Day 3

At leisure in Rio

A day at leisure to explore the city and enjoy the beaches of Rio. There is also a wide choice of optional excursions available, including a tropical islands cruise and a scenic mountain bus ride to the colonial city of Petropolis.

Transfer to Rio airport and fly to Foz do Iguassu where we visit the spectacular waterfalls spanning an incredible 2,470m. We visit the Brazilian side for a panoramic view along the raised walkways giving perfect photo opportunities of the many cascades of thunderous water. We then transfer to the Argentinian side, for a perspective from above and walks along the trails. Spend one night at our hotel overlooking the falls on a bed and breakfast basis.

After a morning at leisure to further enjoy the forest and views of the Iguassu Falls. We then transfer to the airport and fly to Buenos Aires where we transfer to your chosen hotel for a 3-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. 


Day 6

Guided Tour of Buenos Aires

Today our local guide will show you this cultural, cosmopolitan city, dubbed the 'Paris of Latin America'. We pass through the colourful quarter of La Boca, birthplace of the tango, the main square with the Presidential Palace and end our explorations at the elegant Parque de Recoleta with its smart bars and street cafés. 


Day 7

At leisure in Buenos Aires

Today you are free to explore Buenos Aires city on your own, maybe watch a tango show in bohemian San Telmo, have a tango lesson yourself or take one of our optional excursions.

Today we fly to the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz for a 1-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. An elegant city located on the Parai River, Santa Cruz was founded by the Spanish in the 1500's. The Veloso Tours local guide will show you the impressive colonial centre and cathedral. 


Day 9

Fly to Sucre

Transfer to the airport and fly to Sucre, an attractive, temperate city, with numerous museums and where buildings retain their colonial charm, preserving the traditional white façades. Your local guide will escort you on a tour of the city in the afternoon. We stay 3-nights including breakfast daily.

 


Day 10

Tarabuco Market

Today enjoy a full day excursion (including lunch) to Tarabuco market, where locals, dressed in their unique costumes, sit behind pyramids of coca leaves and fruit, whilst others sell their traditional woven goods.


Day 11

Day-trip to Potosí

The day begins with a journey to Potosí, (4070m). Towering over the city, the Cerro Rico is an imposing, colourful mountain whose stores of precious metals, although seriously depleted, are still mined. We take an afternoon visit to the old Spanish Mint before returning to Sucre.

Morning transfer to Sucre airport and fly to La Paz, the world's highest capital city (3,636m), where you stay for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. La Paz is a bustling city settled in a large basin, where adobe houses cling precariously to the sheer sides.


Day 13

Guided tour of La Paz

Enjoy a tour with our local guide following a maze of streets and alleyways to visit plazas, churches and the Indian half of the city where the streets are lined with stalls selling wonderful weavings, traditional musical instruments and jewellery. We continue to the witches' market, where charismatic ladies sell a range of herbs, bottled potions and amulets to cure all illness.

We leave La Paz, heading north overland to Lake Titicaca. We cross the straits of Tiquina and drive along the lake shore with the snow-capped mountains in the background. Visit the village of Copacabana, Bolivia's main pilgrimage centre and the Calvario hill high above the lake. After an included lunch, we take a boat trip on Lake Titicaca to Sun Island and walk to your hotel admiring the panoramic view of the lake in this extraordinary setting. There is time to walk and explore, relax and admire Lake Titicaca. We overnight on Sun Island including breakfast. 


Day 15

Puno, Lake Titicaca

At leisure on Sun Island in the morning to walk and explore. In the afternoon, we take a boat across the lake to Puno on the Peruvian side, staying at our lakeside hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 17

Explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas 

Today we are up early to enjoy an included full-day excursion (including lunch) in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Drive through the beautiful valley, visiting the ruins of Ollantaytambo, a massive temple fortress, spend time at the Pisac market, where people come from miles around to buy and sell, and enjoy the views and history in the spectacular site of Pisac ruins.

We then check into our hotel for a 1-night stay including breakfast.

 


Day 19

At leisure in Machu Picchu 

This morning is free to explore Machu Picchu further or take a possible climb Huayna Picchu for views of the site - or walk to Intipunku, the Gate of the Sun, at the end of the Inca Trail. After an included lunch, we take the train back to Cusco, where you will stay for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

In the afternoon our local Veloso Tours guide will show you the grand colonial squares and the Larco Herrera Museum, which houses fascinating artefacts from pre-Inca and Inca times.

Departure

Morning at leisure, before transferring to the airport for an overnight direct flight home. Or extend your trip to walk the Inca Trail or explore the natural wonders of the Amazon rainforest.
