Crossing the Andes 

One of the highlights of this journey is our trip over the Andes into Chile. We take a sequence of bus journeys and boat rides across 3 lakes. The views of the mountains are stunning and on a clear day you can see all along the mountain chain. We eventually arrive in the Chilean town of Puerto Varas.

Tierra del Fuego expedition cruise to Ushuaia

We travel to Punta Arenas pier where we embark the M/V Stella Australis (or depending on your departure date the M/V Ventus Australis) expedition cruise ship for a 4 night cruise on a full board basis including all excursions through the myriad of islands and channels of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. Enjoy a cocktail reception with the captain this evening as we set sail in the southernmost tip of the world.

Beagle Channel and Glacier Alley

This morning we sail through the famous Beagle Channel to Pia Glacier. From here, we board zodiacs to take us to shore for a short hike to a lookout point with a spectacular view of the entire glacier. It is really quite awesome! We return to the ship and sail through the majestic 'Glacier Alley'. On board, enjoy lectures and presentations about this historically fascinating part of the world.

Cape Horn National Park

Today we explore the mythical place known as the 'End of the Earth', Cape Horn National Park. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, we go ashore and enjoy a guided trek discovering the flora, fauna and wildlife that make this special place their home. Later, after returning to the ship, we go ashore at Wulaia Bay, once the site of the regions largest indigenous settlements, where we take a walk through Magellanic Forest.

Deep in the far south of Patagonia is Tierra del Fuego. It is here where the custom-built Australis ships cruise the dramatic landscape of glaciers, rocky islands, calm canals and snow covered peaks at the junction of the Pacific, Atlantic and Antarctic Oceans

The Stella Australis is a luxurious, awe-inspiring cruise ship. The ship, constructed in 2010, consists of 100 cabins with a capacity of up to 210 passengers. During the cruise, there will be daily inland tours lasting approximately two hours.

These tours are organised and managed by the Australis Expedition Group and consist of walks through trails in the native Chilean forest and visits to glaciers. The tours include talks on the wildlife, flora and fauna of the area. A delicious whisky with the millenary ice, or a cup of hot chocolate will be served at the end of the excursions. 

You will travel between Ushuaia in Argentina and Punta Arenas on the Chilean side, with itineraries available in both directions.
