A further day of guided explorations enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of Puerto Madryn and exploring the Valdes Peninsula, listed in 1999 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The area of the Peninsula is vast, covering over 1,400 square miles. We see some salt lakes and hope to spot the Argentine grey fox, pichi, rheas, maras and guanacos and other species in the company of your expert local guide.

A full day excursion to Lapataia Bay in Tierra del Fuego National Park. We hike with our expert Veloso guide through a stunning landscapes of forests, lakes, streams and snow-capped mountains. Beavers' dams cover the area, and, with luck, we may see some at work. After an invigorating day, we return to Ushuaia.

El Calafate

Morning flight to El Calafate, gateway to Los Glaciares National Park. El Calafate is a characterful town on the southeastern shore of Lago Argentino. Here, many species of birds congregate, including the Magellanic oyster catcher. Transfer to your hotel where we stay for 3 nights. Rest of the day at leisure enjoying the town's excitable atmosphere. There are many cafes, bars and bistros to relax and enjoy.

Perito Moreno Glacier

We set off early on what for many is the highlight of this tour, a full day excursion to the breathtaking Perito Moreno Glacier. This incredible mass has a 4km frontage and a height reaching 70m. Silence reigns, shattered only by the thunderous roar of ice breaking off the glacier and punctuated by the unearthly groans of the creaking glacier. In the company of our expert local guide, we hike along the paths and by glacial streams to the best look out points and take a fascinating boat ride dodging floating icebergs for a different perspective of the glacier and wonderful photo opportunities.

Optional visit to Upsala Glacier

Today you can relax in El Calafate or take an optional excursion to visit the Upsala Glacier, located in the nearby Los Glaciares National Park. Often overshadowed by the Perito Moreno Glacier, the Upsala Glacier is well worth exploring as you travel by boat up to the northwestern end of Lago Argentino through icebergs and floating ice - its an invigorating experience.

Across the Andes to Argentina 

We head into the Andes today on an adventure from Chile to Bariloche in Argentina. Travelling by bus and boat we visit Vicente Perez National Park with its impressive Petrohue waterfall and volcanic rock shapes. We then cross Todos Los Santos Lake by boat arriving in Puella. From here, we travel by bus to the border and cross into Argentina. We travel amidst stunning mountain scenery by boat across Lake Frias and continue by bus to Puerto Blest, where we go afloat on the final passage, across the magnificent Nahuel Huapi Lake. One final bus ride takes us to our hotel in Bariloche where we stay for 2 night and a chance to relax after a truly memorable day. Lunch is included today.
