Trek to Birethanti

You will be collected from your hotel in Pokhara by your guide and taken for a trek briefing in the local Ker and Downey's office. We then continue by road with guide & porters to our trek start point in Nayapul (Approx. 1.5 hours).

Reaching Nayapul, our easy and undulating walk takes us to Sanctuary Lodge, less than one hour. The lodge has magnificent views of the sacred and unclimbed Fishtail Mountain, or Machhapuchre, as it is locally known.

Lunch is at the lodge followed by an optional walk to the village of Birethanti. Or you may choose to spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding river valley.

Birethanti Lodge

Pokhara - Tourist Lodge

Over a suspension bridge bedecked with prayer flags, on a promontory overlooking the Modi Khola, sits the aptly named Birethanti Lodge, amid half a mile of river frontage and blooming lawns full of marigolds, poinsettias and butterflies. The lodge has 18 rooms, each with en-suite bathroom, hot running water, a comfy bed, cold bottled water, a hot water bottle—plus an Ayurvedic massage service, laundry, and FREE wifi.

Against the hum of the roaring river, you’ll find fine service and pleasant routine guiding life at the lodge: afternoon tea served at 4.30pm, happy hour with free drinks at six, a communal dinner at seven. At sunrise, guests gather outside for steaming cups of tea followed by breakfast of porridge and eggs, then most head out for their day's hike in the stunning mountains. A short walk takes you down a gentle hill is the trekker’s base in Birethanti. Modi Khola and the nearby subtropical forests are excellent for botanical and birdwatching expeditions.

The rates are on a full board basis.

Trek to Tomijong

Following a leisurely breakfast, we leave Sanctuary lodge & trek to Ker & Downey's Mala Lodge at 1,395 meters. The lodge is built along the lines of a traditional Nepalese village. Every room has spectacular views of the surrounding valley and mountains. After lunch at the lodge, we have an option to visit the local village of Tanchok where we visit a local house, now made into a museum. The contents of the house illustrate how the local people live, together with the tools and implements of day to day traditional village life. We might also visit a local school. Overnight at Mala Lodge on a full board basis. Approx trekking time 2-3 hours.

Tomijong Lodge

Pokhara - Tourist Lodge

The traditional-style stone buildings of Mala Lodge huddle in the Annapurna lowlands amongst rice terraces, near to a quaint bee-keeping village. Getting here is an hour’s drive from Pokhara to Lumle, followed by a ninety minutes hike on a winding trail through a picturesque forest, past rice terraces and perfect panoramas.

The lodge has 18 new rooms, each with comfortable twin beds, slate floors, rafted ceilings, and spacious bathrooms with hot showers and pampering amenities.

This quiet and serene place set among tranquil gardens and paved terraces feels like a sanctuary, protected by looming Machapuchare, the Fishtail Mountain. It is not part of the regular trekking circuit and ideal for travellers seeking a more leisure exploration of the Annapurna lowlands.

One of the highlights is a trek to a local village through a pitchwork of fields and terraces.

The rates are on a full board basis.
