Sunrise at Poonhill & Tadapani
Up early this morning at around 5:30 am for an hour’s climb to view the sunrise at Poon Hill, a truly wonderful experience. Here, observe unobstructed views of the sunrise over the high Himalayas, including many white mountain peaks. We return to Ghorepani for breakfast.
From Ghorepani, the trail climbs south on muddy path through the deep forests. It finally emerges on a grassy knoil which offers good mountain views, including that of Machhapuchhare (Not visible from Ghorepani pass) and a panorama all the way south to the plains of India. Climbing continues along the ridge in pine and rhododendron forests to the top at 3,030 metres then descend to a second pass also called Deurali at 2,960 metres.
The trail through a ridge hides the mountains as you make a steep, sometimes treacherous, descent on a narrow path alongside the stream. The stream has some clear pools alongside the trail and finally becomes a series of waterfalls over a jumble of boulders. The steep descent becomes more gentle reaching Banthanti for Lunch.
From Banthanti, the trail follow the stream down to a bridge where the trail starts climbing, leaving the moist high mountain forests and entering into a field of cane, making some ups and downs past to vantage point of Tadapani (2,540 meters) that offers a brief view of the mountains. Tadapani means "far water". We arrive and check-in to our lodge for a 1-night stay on a full board basis. Approx trekking time today is 6-7 hours.
