Amazon rainforest

90% of Suriname is untouched virgin rainforest, much of which is protected by UNESCO.

The vast Southern and Central regions of Suriname are covered in virgin Amazon rainforest. The most protected area is the Central Suriname Nature Reserve covering 4m acres of virgin rainforest and now a UNESCO protected World Heritage site. Here, many species thrive including monkeys, jaguars, armadillos, sloths and tapirs. Here, you will find comfortable lodges to stay and explore the forest with knowledgeable local naturalist guides. 

But other areas are equally rewarding, particularly river lodges on the Suriname River, such as Danpaati River lodge located on an island on the river and featured in our Surama private individual tour.
