Occupying some 35% of the country, Los Llanos is an area of flat savannah and tropical grassland in the centre of Venezuela. It is seasonally flooded, creating a rich biodiversity and attracting caiman, crocodiles, capybaras, deer, wildcats, anteaters and the occasional jaguar. It is also ideal for bird-watching, with hundreds of different species making their home here, including macaws, parrots, ibis, hawks and herons.
