As an alternative to staying in the Rongbuk Monastery Guest House, you might choose to spend the night in one of the communal tents at the Everest campsite. These are surprisingly warm and spacious and are traditionally-decorated. A yak and sheep dung fire keeps the temperature up (you get used to the smell) and hot food and drinks are available.

The views of Everest from the campsite are glorious, as are those enjoyed from the Base Camp site, just a short shuttle bus ride from here.
