Cultural journeys to visit the Mayan heritage and traditions, archaeological sites and pyramids of Tikal, Copan and Quirigua, the magical waters of Lake Atitlan, the colonial core of Antigua and remote weaving villages.
Mayan culture and heritage are deeply ingrained in Guatemala and the country proudly boasts a collection of outstanding archaeological sites to rival those found over the Mexican border. These range from small and isolated discoveries buried deep in the jungle, all the way up to sprawling fourth century Tikal - the country’s star attraction - where immense pyramids soar above the thick rainforest canopy and provide a home to a surprising abundance of wildlife. Guatemala is about more than historic ruins however, the country is brought to life by colourful Indian markets and enriched by beautiful colonial era cities, the rugged Central Highlands and by the enchanting Lake Atitlan, surrounded by towering volcanoes and lined with small Mayan villages still inhabited by indigenous people in traditional dress.

Best time to visit Guatemala
When is the Best Time to Visit Guatemala?
Guatemala enjoys a warm tropical climate year-round, but conditions vary between the highlands, lowlands jungles, and Pacific coast. The country has two main seasons, the dry season (November to April) and the wet season (May to October), each offering distinct experiences for travellers.
November to April - Dry Season and Best Overall Conditions
This is the most popular time to visit Guatemala, with clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and minimal rainfall. It is the ideal seaon for exploring Antigua, Lake Atitlan, and the Maya sites of Tikal, with day time highs around 22-28°C in most regions. The dry season is also perfect for volcano hikes, market visits, and colonial towns, while the cooler evenings in the highlands make comfortable stays. December to February offer the crispest weather and best visibility for photography.
May to October - Green Season and Lush Landscapes
Rainfall increases during these months, especially in the afternoons, though mornings often remain sunny and bright. This is a great time for birdwatching, rainforest exploration, and cultural immersion with fewer tourists around. The countryside is lush and vibrant, and travel costs are generally lower. In Peten (home to Tikal and El Mirador), expect higher humidity and occasional heavy showers, while Antigua and Lake Atitlan remain cooler and more comfortable.
November to May - Best for Festivals and Culture
Guatemala's festivals are colourful and deeply rooted in Indigenous traditions. Highlights include Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Antigua(March/April) and All Saints Day (1 November), celebrated with giant kites in Sumpango and Santiago Sacatepequez. These months combine the best weather with the country's most spectacular cultural events.
