Landlocked Bolivia is a country of breathtaking landscapes, with a rich culture underpinned by Inca heritage. On the high altiplano Lake Titicaca shimmers in the midday sun, the Salar de Uyuni stretches out to the horizon and flocks of pink flamingos are reflected in glistening red, green and white lagoons. The colonial city of Sucre and the mining town of Potosí tell both sides of a prosperous yet tumultuous past and local markets burst with wonderful sights, sounds and smells.
Bolivia rewards intrepid travellers with rich culture, Inca heritage, friendly natives, diverse wildlife and some of the most remarkable landscapes in Latin America - where the altitude isn’t the only thing that will take your breath away.

Best Time to visit Bolivia
When is the best time to visit Bolivia?
Bolivia's dramatic landscapes range from the high Andean plains to tropical lowlands, meaning the best time to visit depends where you go. In general, the dry season from May to October offers the clearest skies and best conditions for travel across most of the country.
May to October - Dry Season and Best Overall Conditions
This is the ideal time to visit Bolivia, with sunny days, blue skies, and comfortable daytime temperatures of 15-25°C in the highlands. Roads are dry and travel between regions is easier. It is best time to explore La Paz, Lake Titicaca, Potosi, and the Uyuni Salt Flats. Nights can be very cold at altitude, especially in June and July, but the crisp, clear air makes for stunning photography and sweeping views across the Altiplano.
November to April - Wet Season and the Mirror Effect at Uyuni
Rainfall increase across much of the country, especially in the Amazon and lowlands, but this period brings a different kind of beauty. Between January and March, the Uyuni Salt Flats often flood, creating the breathtaking mirror effect, when the sky perfectly reflects off the water. Travel logistics can be trickier, with some roads closed due to rain, but this is one of the most photogenic and unique natural spectacles in South America. Temperatures are slightly warmer overall, particularly in the valleys and lowlands.
Amazon and Lowlands - Warm Year-Round
In regions like Rurrenabaque and Madidid National Park, the weather is hot and humid throughout the year, averaging 28-32°C. The drier months from May to October are best for wildlife viewing, river excursions, and jungle lodges, while the wetter monhts bring greener landscapes and abundant birdlife.

How many days should I spend in Bolivia?
Allow at least 10-12 days to explore highlights such as La Paz, Lake Titicaca, Sucre, Potosi, and Uyuni. With more time, include the Amazon basin or combine with Peru or Chile.
Which countries can I combine with Bolivia?
Bolivia combines well with Peru (Lake Titicaca and Cusco) and chile (Atacama Desert and Uyuni). Regional flights also connect Argentina and Brazil.
Is it safe to travel to Bolivia?
Yes, most are trouble-free. Take normal precautions in the cities, and be mindful of altitude in La Paz and Altiplano. Demonstrations can occur, so follow local advise.

Yellow fever vaccinations is mandatory if visiting in the Amazon or certain lowland regions. Routine vaccinatons (hepatitis A, typhoid) are recommended. Consult your GP or a travel clinic.
What is the altitude like in Bolivia?
Many of Bolivia's highlights are at high altitude. La Paz and Uyuni sit at around 3,650m, while Lake Titicaca rises slightly higher at 3,800m. Travellers commonly experience mild symptoms such as shortness of breath in the first few days. We recommend taking it easy on arrival, staying hydrated, and allowing time to acclimatise gradually.
