Paracas
Today we journey south through the desert, following the coast, to Paracas, and spend 1 night at our hotel looking out over the Pacific. We visit the Paracas Peninsula, stopping at the Mirador de Lobos Marinos, a cliff-top vantage point, perfect for observing the sea lion colonies in secluded bays.

Ballestas islands and Inca Museum
In the morning we take a boat trip to the Ballestas Islands, home to thousands of marine birds, including boobies, gannets and pelicans. All the while, sea lions frolic merrily in our wake. Continue to the Huacachina Oasis, a beautiful green lake, surrounded by palm trees and towering sand dunes. Later we visit the Inca Museum, gaining a rare insight into the pre-Inca cultures and enjoy a small but impressive collection of perfectly preserved by the desert. Drive to Nasca and stay overnight.

Lima - Tourist Hotel
This small contemporary hotel is located in the heart of Miraflores, with plenty of access to local conveniences such as restaurants and shops. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and modern although simple in character, and all with modern amenities such as WiFi, air conditioning and private facilities. A highlight of this journey is the early morning flight over the legendary Nazca Lines, an unexplained, intricate collection of immense landscape figures, which can only be identified from above. We journey to Arequipa, through desert, contrasting lush green fields and tiny villages which only survive from water brought by rivers originating in the Andes. We stay 2 nights in Arequipa.

Travel by road to Lauca National Park, located in the Chilean Altiplano and home to over 100 species of birds including flamingoes, the Andean condor and Puna Ibis. Continue to Lake Chungará, one of the highest lakes in the world, set in the most beautiful position in the shadow of the Payachata volcano. In the afternoon, admire scenic mountains and spectacular passes to the Bolivian border and continue to La Paz, where we will stay for 2-nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

Outside the city lies the mighty fortress and religious site of Sacsayhuamán, an astounding megalithic structure, whose massive stones weigh over 100 tons, fitted together with typical Inca perfection.

We leave Cusco on a spectacular train journey, following the course of the Urubamba River, and culminating in the impressive Machu Picchu. Once at the ruins, we have a guided tour and the afternoon to explore the site. Overnight in a hotel located Aguas Calientes on a bed and breakfast basis.

This morning is free to explore. Perhaps revisit Machu Picchu at your leisure or walk the Inca Trail to Sun Gate. Another option is to hike up Huayna Picchu offering breathtaking views of the Urubamba River below. In the afternoon we take the train and bus back to Cusco where we stay for 2 nights.

Journey into the Amazon
We fly from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, in the Amazon Basin, from where we take a motorised, dug-out canoe on the Tambopata River to our lodge for 3 nights on a full board basis and two days of jungle excursions accompanied by local guides. Enjoy guided walks through the fabulous rainforest and dense tree canopy, visit a local village and go caiman-spotting on the river at night. You will enjoy a full programme of included activities, plus have time to relax and take additional optional excursions depending on your interests.

Tambopata Ecolodge is situated on the banks of the Tambopata River in the Tambopata National Reserve, a protected area located in the southeastern region of Madre de Dios. The lodge has delightful cabins made from wood and thatched with woven leaves and screened to protect from insects. By day, enjoy the remarkable attractions of the South American rainforest, while evenings can be spent relaxing and enjoying the restaurant and bar.
The lodge has 6 spacious suites, each with electricity. All rooms have private bathroom, comfortable beds fitted with mosquito nets, a chair, table and hammocks. There is no electricity supply in the superior rooms; at night lighting is provided by candles.
There is much to do and explore from the lodge on guided excursions to observe caiman, otters and many bird species.

The wildlife in the area is remarkable, from giant and colourful macaws, to toucans, parrots, tapirs, tamarind monkeys, owls, Southern Amazon Red squirrels, as well as a large variety of monkeys. Reserva Amazonica also holds the world record for ant species in a single place (362 species).
The lodge offers spacious facilities and well-equipped private cabins, guaranteeing guests an authentic, safe and comfortable stay in the rainforest, combining cozy accommodations with warm hospitality, a dedication to conservation and the opportunity to discover magnificent naturally camouflaged wildlife in the jungle.
The lodge boasts 30 private cabanas and 3 suites built with local materials in native style. Service areas are located in a two story wooden pavilion with a cathedral ceiling housing the dining room, bar, the main lounge and a mezzanine over looking the rainforest, where visitors can relax while contemplating the unique scenery.
Each day and evening there are excursions on offer, both along the river tributaries and along the paths in the forest. Night excursions are also a possibility. As well as viewing the native wildlife, guests also learn about the medicinal properties of the plants endemic to the area and learn more about life in the Amazon. There are also evening presentations.
Included Entrance Fee to the Tambopata Research Center. All meals are included (drinks are extra), as are explorations part of your itinerary (and additional ones are payable locally). Please note that guests can take a maximum of 10kg to the lodge, the rest can be left in the lodge's office in Puerto Maldonado.
