When is the best time to visit Belize?

Belize enjoys a warm tropical climate year-round, with average daytime temperatures of 26-30°C and cooling sea breezes along the coast. The country has two main seasons-the dry season (December to May) and the green season (June to November), each offering distinct experiences both inland and along the barrier reef.

December to May - Dry Season and Best Overall Conditions

This is the most popular time to visit Belize, with plenty of sunshine, low humidity, and calm seas. It is ideal season for snorkelling, diving, and sailing around the Belize Barrier Reef or relaxing on Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker. Inland, the Maya sites, rainforests, and caves are more accessible with comfortable hiking conditions and fewer mosquitos. February to April are peak months, so booking early is recommended for popular coastal resorts.

June to November - Green Season and Fewer Crowds

The green season brings short tropical showers, usually in the afternoon, followed by sunshine. Landscapes become luch and vibrant, waterfalls are fuller, and wildlife is more active. This is a great time for birdwatching and exploring the rainforest around San Ignacio or the Mountain Pine Ridge. Do I need a visa to visit Belize?

British and most EU passport holders do not require a via for tourist visits of up to 30 days (extensions available). A valid passport with at least six months' validity is required.

How long is the flight from the UK to Belize

There are not direct flights from the UK. The easiest are via Cancun or Panama City, arriving in Belize City. Journey time us typically 14-16 hours including stopovers. At present, there are not direct European connections, so most travellers route through Mexico or Central America.

How many days should I spend in Belize?

Allow 7-10 days to explore the highlights, Belize Barrier and Cayes for snorkelling and diving, plus Mayan ruins such as Caracol and Lamanai. With more time, combine with Guatemala's Tikal or Mexico's Yucatan.

Which countries can I combine with Belize?

Belize combines naturally with Guatemala (short overland transfer to Tikal or Flores) and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

Is it safe to travel to Belize?

Most visits are trouble-free, particularly in tourists areas such as Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, and Placencia. Standard precautions are advised, especially in Belize City.

Do I need vaccinations for Belize?

No mandatory vaccines are required. Routine vaccinations (hepatitis A, typhoid) are recommended. Mosquito precautions are advised due to dengue and Zika.
