Isla Leones Camps (and its nearby sister Marisma Camps) is located about 4 hours drive south from Puerto Madryn in the Patagonia Azul Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO site spanning 3.1 million hectares protecting the most biodiverse stretch of Argentina's Atlantic coastline. Here, there is a network of over sixty protected islands and bays sheltering whales, penguins, sea lions, cetaceans, and an exceptional variety of seabirds across a 400 km conservation corridor.
Visitors can explore isolated beaches, kayak crystal-clear waters, and experience a sense of scale and solitude increasingly rare along the world's coastlines - where changing light, vivid colours, and constant wildlife make every excursion feel deeply connected to nature.
Beyond its scenery, as part of Rewinding Argentina, Patagonia Azul represents a new model of conservation, where ecosystem restoration, scientific research, and sustainable tourism work together to protect a vital marine territory while creating long-term opportunities for local communities.
Isla Leones Camps are set along a remote stretch of white sandy shoreline. The landscape is raw and striking. There are six cozy beachfront cabins built in traditional Patagonian style. The superior cabins have a private bathroom, twin or double bed, and a private elevated deck with sweeping views.
Public areas include a dining room with dishes prepared using locally caught fish, hand-harvested seaweed and vegetables sourced from the camp’s garden. There is free Wi-Fi, and a lounge.
Activities include trekking, snorkelling, and boat tours for wildlife sighting, as well as exploring islands and islets.
The rates include all meals and local activities.
Note on the Rewilding Argentina Foundation
Rewilding Argentina Foundation traces its roots to a bold vision: to restore South America’s most threatened ecosystems to their full ecological richness. This work began through The Conservation Land Trust (CLT), founded by Douglas and Kristine Tompkins in 1997, acquiring former ranch lands across Argentina and Chile, restoring them, and ultimately donating the lands to create new national parks.
The Rewilding Argentina Foundation emerged as the driving force behind conservation and restoration efforts, working with local communities, scientists, and national authorities to protect biodiversity and foster sustainable, nature-based economies.
Rewilding Argentina understands conservation as more than restoring ecosystems:
it also means creating opportunities for the communities that coexist within them.
Through a regenerative economy model, local people become active participants in Rewilding Experience by providing guiding, hospitality, gastronomy, and other nature-based experiences that strengthen both conservation and local identity.
Born from this vision, Rewilding Experience connects travellers with some of Argentina’s most extraordinary natural destinations while directly supporting conservation and community development. Staying at a Rewilding Experience lodge means being immersed in a living conservation story - every wildlife encounter is part of a larger effort to restore one of Argentina’s most extraordinary natural treasures.
