Located around 40 miles through the mountains from Rio de Janeiro, Petropolis was once the summer retreat of the Brazilian monarchs and court, earning it the moniker of 'Imperial City'. The tour includes a visit to the palace in Petropolis and also the opportunity to see other examples of imperial architecture at your own pace, including the Quitandinha Palace - a 1940's casino. You will also have the opportunity to taste the delicious chocolates and sweets made in the region and visit the Gothic Cathedral and the city's palaces and museum too. In the latter you can see furniture and objects, such as the crown of gold, pearls and diamonds, used by Emperor Pedro I and Emporer Pedro II. Most of the tour can be done in a horse and cart or on foot.
