Discover the pre-Hispanic heritage of Atacameñans and relive their way of life at two archaeological sites.
We begin with a visit to the reconstructed Inca fortress - the Pukara de Quitor - located just outside of San Pedro. Thought to date back over 700 years, the fort sits in a strategic position on a hill, giving a wide view of the surrounding area and providing a layer of protection from other invading towns. We then continue on to another archaeological site, this time the ruins at Tulor. These are constructions made by the Atacameñans in the pre-Hispanic period; round houses and twisting passageways that date back more than 3,000 years.
