Hike between panoramic viewpoints observing China's most spectacular mountain scenery in the Yellow Mountain.

Widely recognised as one of China's pre-eminent areas of natural beauty, Huangshan has inspired the work of some of the country's most noted painters and poets. The area's name literally translates as Yellow Mountain, a moniker given during the Tang Dynasty in the 8th century, although it is actually a series of powerful granite peaks, many rising over 1,000 metres into the air and above the almost permanent layer of cloud. Days here are spent following the designated walkways to reach panoramic lookout points whilst learning about the historical significance of the region.

There are two ways to approach a visit to Huangshan. The easiest option is to stay two nights in Huangshan City, spending a full day exploring the mountain via the cable cars which whisk visitors to the top. The second option is to add in a night in between, staying in a hotel at the top. By doing so you will have the chance to hike up one side, see the spectacular sunrise in the morning and then hike back down the other path. This requires a fairly good level of fitness as the path up is quite steep, but it will take you away from the biggest crowds and give you a more intimate experience.

Huangshan can be easily reached by Bullet Train from Shanghai, Hangzhou or Beijing.
