Delve deep into Lhasa's sacred monuments to uncover the mysteries of its past and present.

This panoramic tour introduces you to the most sacred of places in Lhasa and the most important elements of Tibet's culture and history. We start with a thought-provoking tour of the iconic Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama. A tour around the vacated meeting rooms, chapels and courtyards is a poignant experience, as you feel the ghosts of the past and the weight of history around every corner and in every empty seat. From the roof of the palace we can enjoy expansive views over the rooftops of Lhasa, out to the mountains which surround the city.

We then drive into the very heart of the old town and walk into the Barkhour. This is a circular street around which pilgrims from across Tibet come to spin prayer wheels or even prostrate themselves along the floor to complete a series of sacred koras. We will join them in entering the Jokhang Temple, the centre of the Tibetan spiritual universe.

After lunch, we will drive to the hills in the outskirts of the city to reach Sera Monastery. After a tour of the grounds we will head to the courtyard to observe as the resident monks hold their lively afternoon debating sessions.
