Venture south off of the Friendship Highway to the base camp of the world's tallest and most fabled mountain.

Forming part of the magnificent Himalayan mountain range on the border between Tibet and Nepal, Mount Everest stands tallest in a land of giants. The fabled Everest North Base Camp lies just beyond the remote Rongbuk Monastery, said to be the highest monastery in the world. From here, breathtaking unobstructed views of the north face of the mountain abound on clear days and the moment you get your first glimpse of the peak is one you will never forget.

Everest is reached by turning off the Friendship Highway and heading south, following a tarmacked switchback road through one of the world's highest mountain passes, from where you can see a panoramic vista of the Himalayas on clear days. Guests stay overnight at high altitude in either the basic Rongbuk Monastery guest house or the cozy communal Everest tents.
