Chonos Route

Saturday to Thursday

Day 1 - Embark Skorpios II and Chiloe Island

Embark Skorpios II in the morning in Puerto Montt. Set sail through the archipelago of Llanquihue with sight on the city of Calbuco, arriving in Quemchi on the island of Chiloé. Disembark on small boats towards the picturesque village where you can visit a handicraft market, cafes, the museum of the Chilean author Francisco Coloane and stroll around the beautiful streets. We continue sailing south along the archipelago of Chiloé, crossing the Gulf of Corcovado at midnight.

Day 2 - Chonos Archipelago and Patagonian Rainforest

We navigate through the channels of Moraleda and Ferronave, arriving at the fishing village of Puerto Aguirre at late morning. Disembark and explore a local village enclosed by the Chonos archipelago. We will walk through the streets, passing a typical Patagonian rainforest arriving at a lookout. After lunch, enjoy incredibly scenic cruising through the channels of Ferronave, Pilcomayo and Casma. 

Late afternoon arrival at Islote Barrientos, where we disembark to smaller boats approaching the rock formations to visit one of the largest bird colonies in Chile, counting kelp gulls, rock shags, red-legged shags and imperial shags. We also observe South American fur seals. We then continue southbound to Caleta Quesahuen or Punta Leopardos which is 20 nautical miles from the Glacier of San Rafael.

Day 3 - The San Rafael Glacier

This morning we cross the channel of Tempanos to the entrance of the San Rafael Lagoon. The vessel anchors 2 kilometres from the glacier, from where we travel by boat among dramatic multi-coloured icebergs exploring the San Rafael Glacier. Depending on the weather, the ship will navigate as close as possible to the glacier and you will rejoin her for an incredible close up view of this natural wonder. We set sail late afternoon towards Quitralco-Fjord.

Day 4 - Quitralco hot springs

We arrive at the pier of Quitralco early morning. After breakfast, enjoy inside and outside hot springs with temperatures of 32º C and 38º C. Depending on the weather, we will also take a boat excursion to the inside of the Fjord. Late afternoon, we sail back towards Chiloé, navigating through the channels of Moraleda and Pérez Norte.

Day 5 - Magellan penguins and birds

Be up early today as we cruise through the channel of Leucayec, crossing the Gulf of Corcovado as it is possible to observe humpbacks or blue whales in this zone. We continue sailing along the east coast of Chiloé, arriving at Islote Conejos, in the channel Queilen. Disembarking on small boats, we visit the island inhabited by Magellan penguins and birds. After lunch, we sail through the islands of Lemuy and Chelín arriving in Dalcahue, where we visit the handicraft market, church and take a stroll along the promenade. As we sail back to Puerto Montt, enjoy a farewell party and Captains dinner.

Day 6 - Disembark in Puerto Montt
