Ahmedabad is the capital city of Gujarat and known as the "Manchester of the East' as well as India’s textile city. There are many attractions for the visitor to enjoy on a guided tour.

Dada Hari Vav (Stepped Well) was built in 1501 to provide a cool resting place and water to the travellers. The stepped well is among the finest examples of Gujarati architecture.
Sabarmati Ashram was founded in 1915 and was the starting point of Mahatma Gandhi's Dandi Yatra in protest of the British salt laws. It was an important base for India's freedom movement. The site is no longer a working ashram but is a museum whose aim is to preserve the legacy of the Mahatma.
Embellished with intricate carvings and built in white marble, the Hatheesing Jain temple is one of the most ornate Jain temples in Ahmedabad. It was built in the nineteenth century by a rich Jain merchant and is dedicated to Dharmnath, the 15th Jain Apostle.
About 100 km’s from Ahmedabad on the banks of the river Pushpavati, the Modhera sun temple is one of the finest examples of 11th century architecture, with carved torana arches.
Swami Narayan Temple was built in 1822 on land given by the British government. The temple is carved in Burmese teak, and every arch and bracket is painted with bright colours, a defining characteristic of Swaminarayan temples everywhere.
The Shreyas Art Museum displays colourful and traditional folk art from Gujarat including textiles and clothing..
The mosque of Sidi Bashir has a pair of shaking minarets, built to avoid damage during earthquakes. The British partially dismantled the pillars in an attempt to understand how they were built.
Teen Darwaza are impressive arched gateways built by Sultan Ahmed Shah. They formed the royal entrance to the Maidan Shah or Royal Square. From here the Sultans watched the processions from the palace to the Jama Masjid.
The Vechaar Utensils Museum, built in 1981, preserves the rich cultural heritage, rare artistic skills and wisdom of the craftsmen in Gujarat.
The Calico Museum displays antique and modern textiles with rare tapestries, wall hangings and costumes. The museum's collection dates back to the 17th century and it also has an excellent reference library on textiles.
