Early morning visit to Magdalena Island (weather permitting) before arriving at Punta Arenas where we disembark and transfer to your chosen hotel or lodge in Torres del Paine National Park for a 4-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. The rest of the day is at leisure

Torres del Paine is widely recognised as one of the world's great national parks, and it isn't hard to see why. The scenery here is often astounding and brings together everything that Patagonia does so well; towering snow-capped mountains seem to soar skywards out of thick forests, which themselves lead to the shores of shimmering turquoise lakes. Wandering vicuñas, deer and foxes dot the landscape, whilst electric-blue icebergs and tumbling glaciers remind you just how far south you are here. The most recognisable features of the park are the three granite towers (los torres), which give the park its name, and the horns (los cuernos), a distinctive collection of jagged granite peaks, sculptured over millennia by glacial erosion and which combine with Lake Pehoé to create the very definition of a picture-perfect scene.

The Guaraní Indians and the Jesuit priests formed utopian communities, based on a peculiar social system, during the XVIth and XVIIth centuries, until the Jesuits fell out of favour in Europe, were banned and the missions were destroyed by the Portuguese, Spanish and Brazilians colonisers. Travel to Potosi

Transfer from Uyuni through the Andes passing remote villages to Potosi, once one of the largest city of the world. Check in to your hotel for one night. The Spanish took untold amounts of silver from the Cerro Rico (Rich Hill) towering above Potosi and crisscrossed by mines that are now exhausted although a few people persevere, risking their lives, for the last remnant of the mineral. Each miner makes offerings to his "devil" so that nothing bad happens while in the primitive tunels.

Visit the Mint where the silver was converted into coins, ready to be taken overland to the River Plata, then by boat to Buenos Aires to be shipped the Spain, and ready to be spent.
