Chinchero, Moray & Maras salt mines
An early start for a full day tour into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, We drive first to the small town of Chinchero. Here there is a local colourful and authentic market where indigenous people from the surrounding communities congregate to trade their goods. It is a lively, colourful and quite noisy affair that gives a real insight to trading in the area. Chinchero is particularly well-known for its woven handcrafts typical of the region.

From Chinchero we drive to the Moray ruins, used by the Incas as a type of open-air crop laboratory.

Our next stop is Maras pre-Inca salt mines located on a wide-open hill above the Urubamba Valley.

Pisac ruins, the market and Ollantaytambo
Enjoy a full day excursion including lunch visiting Pisac, a colonial town built on the ruins of an Inca citadel by Viceroy Francisco de Toledo. It stands at the entrance to the immensely fertile Sacred Valley. Here, enjoy the bustling market full of handicrafts and food.

It was the Spaniards that christened the Fortress of Ollantaytambo, the archaeological complex believed to have been a gigantic agricultural, administrative, social, religious and military centre. The town itself is geometrically perfect, with straight streets, trapezoidal doors and an Inca drainage system. Quite fascinating.

The Willoq community is also well known for its weavers and the quality of the textiles is still a product of patience, knowledge and the skilled weaver. The primitive back strap loom, unaltered for centuries, is still used to weave even the finest textiles.

Lunch is included today.
