Special Veloso Tour of the Sacred Valley

Enjoy our extensive, special full day tour of the Sacred Valley. We begin visiting the market at Chinchero, where locals come to barter and sell local produce and handicrafts. Also visit a local weaving collective to learn the traditions of weaving by hand on a back-strap loom. Next, we proceed to Moray, thought to have been an open-air crop laboratory of the Incas, followed by the pre-Inca salt pans of Maras. After an included lunch, visit the stunning fortress town and ruins of Ollantaytambo. This large archaeological complex is believed to have been a significant agricultural, administrative, social, religious and military centre. The town itself is geometrically perfect; with straight streets, trapezoidal doors, and Inca drainage systems. Finally, we travel to the colonial town of Pisac, built on the ruins of an Inca citadel and located at the entrance to the immensely fertile Urubamba "Sacred" Valley. Here you can see the bustling market and admire the beautiful sunset over the mountains from the ruins.

Start your Inca Trail trek

Today is the start of the Classic Inca trail, joining a group of like-minded adventurers and accompanied by an expert local guide, porters and cooks. All equipment including sleeping bags will be provided. You will pass dramatic landscapes from sierra to cloud forests, replete with hanging vines, to sub tropical jungle. An unforgettable experience of silent, secluded ruins, culminating with sunrise at Machu Picchu (2,380m). In the afternoon, you make camp in the mountains and set up your tent ready for an evening around the fire.

Friday, 20 June 2025

Dead Women's Pass

Today you begin walking up steps through sub-tropical jungle and alongside small running streams. This can often be completed at the end of day 1, before reaching the plains of Lluichapampa, just below the well-known (and dreaded!) Dead-Woman's Pass. The walk up to the pass is not far but the altitude affects everyone and the pace is slow.  Upon reaching the top you have a breather to take in the magnificent views and regain some energy.

From Dead Woman's pass you descend into the valley where you usually stop for lunch, ready for another climb up to the second pass in the trail. En-route you pass the small ruins of Runkuracay. From the second pass you head down towards your second campsite, passing the larger ruins of Sayacmarca and going into a more tropical area.

Saturday, 21 June 2025

Inca Trail to Winaywayna

You start walking through the cloud forest along the ancient Inca paths until you reach the 3rd pass, just beyond which you pass through the ruins of Phuyupatamarca. From here you continue downhill to Winaywayna in time for lunch and you have time to relax at your campsite before a leisurely afternoon visit to the ruins.

Explore Machu Picchu and return to Cusco

A very early morning start to make it to Intipunku, the Sun Gate, in time for sunrise. It is often cloudy but it is still an amazing and surreal site to view Machu Picchu emerge through a gap in the clouds. It is then a short walk to the site of Machu Picchu. On arrival in Machu Picchu you will have a guided tour of the site and then have time free to explore. In the afternoon we take the bus down from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes and join the Vistadome train for a scenic ride along the Urubamba River to Ollantaytambo train station. Here you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Cusco for a 2-night stay on a bed and breakfast basis.
