ITINERARY 

Day 1 - Introduction to the Sacred Valley

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Cusco to the Sacred Valley for a visit to Chinchero, a small Andean village and Inca archaeological site thought to be the country residence of Inca emperor Tupac Yupanqui. From there, choose an inspiring downhill hike from Chinchero to the town of Urquillos along historic Inca trails, or exploring Moray and natural salt mines in Maras. We overnight at Lamay Lodge (9,705’ / 2,958m). 

Activity options: 

  • All-Group Cultural Activity (morning): Visit to the historic village and archaeological site of Chinchero. 
  • Cultural: Guided exploration of the Moray agricultural complex and the natural salt mines in Maras. 
  • Active: Hike from Chinchero to Urquillos (subject to availability and additional cost). Approximately 3 hours, easy to moderate. 

Day 2 - Exploring Pisaq

Today you will have multiple ways to explore Pisaq. Start the day with an invigorating hike to the Pisaq archaeological site or a bike ride along the Urubamba river*. For a more cultural experience, take a scenic drive to the town square and meander through its charming streets and colorful artisan marketplace. Afterwards, everyone will reunite for traditional Pachamanca dinner back at Lamay Lodge where we overnight. 

Activity options: 

  • Cultural (morning): Excursion to Pisaq for a guided tour and free time to explore its celebrated marketplace. 
  • *Semi-active: Scenic Bike up stream, along the Urubamba River from Lamay Lodge to Pisaq Town (subject to additional cost). Approximately 3 hours, easy to moderate. 
  • Active (morning): Hike from Amaru Viacha to Pisaq archaeological site. Approximately 3 hours, moderate. 

Day 3 - Ollantaytambo 

The day begins with a guided tour of the impressive Ollantaytambo Inca fortress. After an included lunch, explore the town’s charming maze-like streets and alleys or, for a more active afternoon, hike to the Pinkuylluna Inca storage houses high above the town for panoramic views of the Urubamba Valley. Late afternoon/early evening return to Cusco. 

Activity options: 

  • All-Group Cultural Activity (morning): Guided exploration of the Ollantaytambo archaeological site. 
  • Cultural (afternoon): Spend the afternoon exploring the town of Ollantaytambo.
  • Active (morning): Hike from Ollantaytambo to Pinkuylluna. Approximately 1.5 hours, easy to moderate.

Extend your stay 

Enjoy an additional Machu Picchu excursion including an overnight in the Sacred Valley and a half-day guided tour of Machu Picchu and transport back to Cusco.
