Posada Amazonas is a 30-bedroom rainforest lodge perfect for your first taste of the Amazon’s natural wonders. Despite being relatively close to Puerto Maldonado, the Posada Amazonas offers ample opportunities to see wildlife such as squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, parrots and macaws. Native guides and naturalists are always on hand to answer your questions about the rainforest ecosystem or the local community.

The comfort rooms have lovely, varnished tropical hardwood floors, are 45 square meters, and have an open verandah that looks out into a roadless, wild tropical rainforest preserve. They are available as singles, doubles or twins, and each is equipped with a mosquito net over large, comfortable beds, two hypoallergenic pillows per person, a hammock, and a reading table.

2 night itinerary

Day 1

On arrival at Puerto Maldonado Airport, transfer to the Tambopata River for a 2 hour boat trip to the lodge. Afternoon visit to a local Ese'eja farm led by a community member, and over dinner, an introductory talk on the Ese'eja Ecotourism Project.

Day 2

At dawn witness the parrots' morning rush on the clay-lick, followed by a boat trip and short walk to the nearby lake. Canoe around the lake to observe the wildlife, such as giant otters, turtles, horned screamers, flycatchers, bat falcons and hoatzin. Lunch and walk to a 30metre high tower, to observe the forest canopy and nearby nest of a remarkable harpy eagle (sightings depend entirely on the breeding cycle).

Day 3

Return to Puerto Maldonado.
