Refugio Amazonas is a 32-bedroom lodge four hours from the Puerto Maldonado airport. It is ideal for science enthusiasts, soft adventurers and families. Refugio Amazonas is located in a 200-hectare private reserve within the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve.

With varnished tropical hardwood floors, rooms are 45 square meters, and have an open verandah that looks out into a roadless, wild tropical rainforest preserve. They are equipped with a mosquito net over large, comfortable beds, two hypoallergenic pillows per person, a hammock, and a reading table. All rooms have electricity 3 times per day and guests are offered an eco-friendly toiletries kit upon arrival.

3 night itinerary

Day 1
On arrival at Puerto Maldonado Airport, transfer to the Tambopata River for a 3 hour boat trip to the lodge. Evening excursion to search for caimans.

Days 2 & 3
At dawn we canoe around the lake to observe the wildlife, such as giant otters & turtles. The afternoon we walk different nature trails with an expert guide. The following day witness the parrots' morning rush on the clay-lick, lunch and walk to canopy tower to observe the canopy birds.

Day 4
Return to Puerto Maldonado.
