Here, deep in the 700,000 hectares of the reserve, several species of macaws and parrots congregate to lick the minerals off a 500m long cliffside on the Tambopata riverbank.
The forest surrounding the centre has three types of terraced floodplain, terra firma, bamboo forest and palm swamps. There are 25 kilometres of trails under the dense canopy of primary rainforest in which numerous species of mammals, and over 480 species of birds have been recorded.
The lodge has four wooden buildings on stilts, connected by a walkway and covered with a thatched roof. There are 13 double rooms with beds covered by mosquito netting, a kitchen, a large dining area with a meeting room and separate toilets, and showers.
