The remote, southern region of Antarctica, named after the circle of latitude and first crossed by Captain Cook in 1773.

The Antarctic Circle is a circle of latitude on maps of the earth. At this point, in their summer in December the sun never sets and in June (winter in Antarctica) the sun does not rise.

This remote region of Antarctica was first crossed by Captain James Cook in 1773. Since then there have been few human residents braving the cold and wild climate.

But the lucky few who get to take an expedition cruise here from November to March are rewarded with incredible icescapes, glaciers and the thriving wildlife and birds including penguins, seals, whales, gulls, terns and albatrosses.

Most Antartica cruises spend their days in the more northerly Antarctic Peninsula. An extended cruise to the more remote Antarctic Circle will appeal to those who are seeking a more in-depth adventure.
