Birdwatching in the lowland rain forest
The eco-lodge offers a range of tours and excursions helping you discover the beautiful and fragile environment. Birdwatchers can explore the lowland rain forest and in the evening go in search of Giant Snipe. On the tour you might see a white-necked hawk, saw-billed hermit, rufous-capped motmot, buff-bellied puffbird, a spot-billed Toucanet and many more species, several being endemic to this area.

Today we drive south to the unspoilt island of Ilha Grande, an extension of the Emerald Coast's forested mountains. A former pirate hideaway, slaving centre and prison, its sandy bays and peninsula now attract gentler visitors. The island boasts virgin, unexplored forest and deserted beaches, with most of the small hotels in the modest but lively fishing village. Enjoy the local restaurants serving excellent seafood and international cuisine. Ilha Grande is the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway or for leisurely activities, including sailing, trekking, sea kayaking and snorkelling. Travel to Parity
This morning we travel south along the coast to the delightful colonial town of Parity where you check into your chosen hotel or lodge for a 3-night stay including breakfast. Parati is a veritable paradise, ideal for winding down. Mountains blanketed with lush shady forests stretch to the coast, overlooking the sandy beach in a glorious bay, dotted with tropical islands.
Ancient Portuguese forts rest on outcrops, both on the mainland and the islands. Architecturally stunning, the whitewashed colonial houses, with brightly painted windows and doors, line the pedestrianised cobblestone streets. Great bars and restaurants, offering local seafood delicacies, stand alongside arts and crafts shops. The atmosphere is tasteful and bohemian, retaining its colonial charm while at the same time playing host to many literary and musical festivals. Wonderful boat trips can be made to explore the islands, landing on secluded beaches, or you can anchor in bays for snorkelling or diving in the clear, warm waters.
