For those that enjoy a physical challenge, a climb up the steep slopes of the Sugar Loaf Mountain is a rewarding way to reach the summit and is the best way to avoid the queues for the popular cable cars. The climb begins with an easy stroll along a beautiful shoreline path, followed by a 20 minute hike up to a wonderful viewpoint over Guanabara Bay and Niterói - it is here that the fun starts!
You will receive safety instructions and professional climbing equipment to face a rocky part of the trail and then will begin the ascent, supported throughout by two fully-trained bilingual climbing instructors. In total the hike is around two to three hours long and, although it is challenging in certain parts, under the guidance of our experts it is achievable for those of a good fitness level.
The incredible 360 degree views from the top will look even better when you reach the summit, enjoying vistas across the city to hidden beaches, hillside favelas and the vast bay. On the way down you will travel on the cable car to Urca Hill and then hike down an easy 30 minute trail back to sea level.
