Join the crowds at the weekly Olodum rehearsal and enjoy the music that provides the soundtrack to Salvador.
Olodum is a musical and cultural phenomenon in Brazil and the heartbeat of Bahia. Most people acquainted with Brazilian music will recognize the powerful drumming of Olodum, characterized by their vibrant drums, hand-painted in the colours of Africa: red, gold, green and black. These are accompanied by the hot afro-brazilian rhythm, samba-reggae, brass power and drumbeats.
On Tuesdays, the historic centre is jam-packed with people eating, drinking and dancing. Hundreds stand outside the door of the open courtyard where Olodum holds its rehearsals. They attract hundreds, even thousands of people - native Salvadorians, Brazilian and international tourists alike - to see and hear the most famous Afro band of Bahia.
