This detailed half day excursion begins with a visit to the top of the Rano Kau Volcano, situated near Hanga Roa. From here you will have spectacular views over the whole island and the perfect round shape of the crater lake. Afterwards we will proceed to the ceremonial village of Orongo, the centre of the bird-man culture, which started when the Rapa Nui people stopped building Moais. We will visit the village and your guide will explain this "new" culture of the island to you and show you the petroglyph images of Tanga Manu (bird man), Make Make (the God that created him) and Komari (a fertility symbol). This site also offers a view of three small rocks rising out of the pacific: Motu Nui, Motu Kau, Motu Iti. We will then continue our excursion to the unrestored Ahu Vinapu, which reminds us of pre-Inca architecture, followed by a visit of the Ana Kai Tangata Cave with its paintings.
