Combine the turquoise ponds of Huanglong with the picture-postcard views of Jiuzhai National Park.
Reached via a short flight from Chengdu, this pair of scenic areas in Northern Sichuan province are celebrated for their magical and dreamlike landscapes.
Huanglong is most noted for its attractive waterfalls, remote temples and inter-connecting turquoise mineral ponds, in which crystal-clear water shimmers seductively amid pristine forested hills and snow-capped mountains.
Further north, the beguiling Jiuzhai National Park encompasses mind-bogglingly beautiful turquoise lakes, breathtaking waterfalls, dramatic mountains and dense virgin forest. The park enjoys wonderful biodiversity, with a large number of plant and bird species, as well as rarely seen animals such as the giant panda and golden monkey lurking in the forests. Jiuzhai is particularly beautiful during autumn when the trees take on a red hue, transforming the landscape.
PLEASE NOTE: Jiuzhai National Park suffered a small earthquake in August 2017 and is temporarily closed for safety reasons.
